The Hockey Bus

APBA Hockey will allow you to play games between teams on two different data disks. You cannot, however, create unified schedules or display unified statistics when teams are not on the same data disk. That's where The Hockey Bus comes in. The Bus will allow you to move players and teams from one data disk to another, creating combined leagues. Moves are accomplished by simply dragging players or complete teams from one disk to another. You can even create your own data disks with the just the players/teams that you want on them.

This program is included in the Hockey Bundle.

Hockey Player Adjuster

The Hockey Player Adjuster updates Player Ratings on one disk (e.g. one created through manual input using the 'F1' feature in APBA player.exe) with Ratings from another disk (e.g. a purchased APBA disk). The program allows you to select which players are updated and even which Ratings for each player are updated.

Hockey Ratings Adjuster

The Hockey Ratings Adjuster mass adjusts the names and some ratings on an APBA Hockey Data Disk. It can convert upper case names to mixed case or force upper case last names. In addition it can "Even Scoring Percentages", "Even Positions", "Fill In Positions" and "Adjust Game Fatigue".

Adjust Names - Convert upper case names to mixed case or force upper case last names.

Even Scoring Percents - Some data disks use a lesser scoring percent for some players' secondary positions. If you want the players record to reflect his actual scoring percent for all of his positions, use this option.

Even Positions - Some data disks use a lesser defensive rating for some players' secondary positions. If you would like all of a player's rated forward positions to be the same and all of his rated defensive positions to be the same, use this option. For example, Smith is rated as a '3' Center, a '3' Right Wing and a '2' Left Wing. This option will make his Left Wing rating a '3' also. Note that the forward positions are rated separately from the defense. If Jones is a Center-2, Right Wing-1 and Left Wind-2 and also a Left Defense-4 and Right Defense-5, this option will make him a '2' at Center and both Wings and a '5' at both Defense positions.

Fill In Positions - Some players are rated at, say, only one Wing or only one Defense position. This option will duplicate a player's defensive rating and scoring chances from the rated Wing to the unrated Wing and from the rated Defense position to the unrated Defense position. This can come in handy for Draft leagues.

Adjust Game Fatigue - Some data disks are created with a player's Game Fatigue based on how many minutes he actually averaged in a game. However, if a player averaged only 5 minutes a game, he could be forced to play much more in a given game because of injuries, penalties, etc. He would soon be exhausted in the game when, in real life, he almost certainly could play additional time if required. This option changes the Game Fatigue for any player with less than 12 minutes to 12 minutes, and any player with between 12 minutes and 20 minutes to 20 minutes. Players with more than 20 minutes of Game Fatigue are not changed at all.

A Note on the Options: Please note that none of these options is called a 'fix'. There is no implied criticism of any disk maker's choice in how to create his disk. The options simply cater to my own personal preferences. If you would like to take advantage of them, please do.

Hockey Old-Timers

This file contains APBA Hockey files for Old Time Hockey Greats.  These players are the stars from the beginning of the NHL through about the late 1940's.  Most players have the year their stats are based on noted next to their name.  Players without a year are from before the beginning of the NHL (in some cases, great amateur players).  Most of the players included are in the Hockey Hall of Fame.

In the old days (the really old days!) hockey was played with seven players.  The seventh position was that of "Rover".  I have taken some liberties in assigning positions to players who were Rovers.

The player archives are based on stats fromThe Complete Encyclopedia of Hockey.  For players before the NHL was founded, there are no stats, so their ratings are based on written descriptions of their play.

The "teams" that are included are relatively random aggregations of players. However, the first line on each team was a real line, such as the famed "Kraut Line" on the Orange Team.

The file contains the Team and Player files necessary for use with the APBA Computer Hockey Game.  Player files are in included in both V1.0 and V2.0 formats, so the Old Timers can be used with either version.  To use these files, just unzip the archive and put the files into a subdirectory in the directory your APBA Hockey game is in.
